Dampness in Buildings

Dampness in buildings if left untreated can lead to structural deterioration; the timbers will decay, and it can also cause other problems.

Most Insulation would be rendered ineffective when it becomes damp/wet; decorations and plaster work become spoilt; brickwork and mortar deteriorate; electrical short circuiting can occur; along with any problematic health effects through the growth of mould and fungal decay caused by damp conditions.

Dampness will also increase the level of humidity in the building and contribute to Condensation problems.

There are many possible causes of Dampness in buildings – some are listed below:

•Defects in the roof/walls

•Defects in the plumbing

•Faults in Damp Proof Courses

•Lifestyle of the occupants
